MEET YOUR HOSTS
Lillian Müller grew up in the South of Norway. In her early 20s, she become a successful model in London, where she strutted the catwalk, graced the pages of French Vogue, and hit the stands as the "Page Three Girl" in the London Sun. After being discovered by Playboy, she moved to America and was featured as the 1976 "Playboy's Playmate of the Year". Lillian went on to become the most featured "Playmate Of The Year" in the history of the publication and has nine covers from 1975 through 1999 to her name. To date, Lillian has more than 1,000 cover stories and features in international media publications as a celebrity and supermodel.
At 68, Lillian is a walking advertisement of health and fitness. In December 2010, Lillian won PETA's Sexiest Vegetarian Over 50 title, which is well-justified, thanks to her 40 years as a vegetarian. She promotes her vegan lifestyle through her book, Feel Great, Be Beautiful Over 40, as well as her lectures as a motivational speaker. Lillian has been well received by audiences listening to her speak about health, fitness, beauty, and anti-aging. She attributes her youthful looks and energy to her healthy vegan lifestyle, and fact that she has never used tobacco, alcohol, or drugs. Lillian's charismatic and informative lectures have proven to be a sensation for those she has inspired throughout the years, in both the US and Norway. Her fascinating life story, as well as her transformations from the runner-up of Miss Norway; successful fashion model; most celebrated Playmate of the Year of all time; actress; and, finally, today as a health guru and inspirational speaker, have all elicited immense interest culminating in the creation of her 1998 biography, Usminket, and two documentaries, Tillbake Hos Hef (The Lillian Müller Story - 2003) and, more recently, Lillian Müller- Mitt I Livet (Lillian Müller - In the Midst of Life - 2012). Her most recent book, Si JA til livet! (Say YES to life!)was published in Norway in June 2019.
Alice grew up in today's vegan mecca, Los Angeles. She always had a special affinity for animals and at just five years of age she declared that she would never eat meat again.
Alice made the leap into veganism when she was in college and never looked back. Going vegan was the best decision of her life and she feels good knowing that she positively contributes to Mother Earth, the reduction of animal suffering, and her own health, each and every day.
While obtaining a B.A. in Cultural Studies and Comparative Literature and a minor in Studies in Cinema and Media Culture (what a mouth full!) from University of Minnesota, she stumbled into CorePower Yoga, where she spent many frigid winter days escaping the cold. After graduating, she spent a month in Maui and fell in love with the aloha spirit. In 2013 she obtained her 200-HR Power Yoga Certification from CorePower Yoga in Berkeley and later taught at various studios and fitness centers in the South of Norway. A highlight of her teaching experience was when the Norwegian crown prince, Prince Haakon, ventured into her class one summer day while on vacation. Little to everyone's surprise, the extent of their conversation was about Berkeley (UC Berkeley is his alma mater) and her rave review of Pepples Donut Farm in Oakland (who doesn't love vegan donuts?!).
In 2016, she joined the Mercy For Animals team where she worked for three years alongside the most incredible humans who shared the joint mission of ending factory farming and promoting compassionate lifestyles.
As a self-proclaimed foodie, Alice spends much of her time eating her way through new restaurants, researching menus, perusing farmers markets and local co-ops for in-season and rare produce, and exploring impromptu recipes ranging from cashew cream cheese to imaginative soups to homemade pumpkin pie. She is passionate about introducing people to the best vegan food on the planet, which is magnified thanks to her love language of feeding people (only semi-kidding, in actuality her love languages are quality time and physical touch, closely followed by words of affirmation). Alice became a certified health coach in 2019.
Her vision in creating this retreat is to combine her love of health, yoga, self care, fresh organic and local produce, the most exquisite vegan food, and her favorite place on Earth, Maui, where you will find lush rainforests, impressive hikes, world class beaches, peace, love, and serenity.
Chef Kyle is half of the incredible husband and wife team, From the Garden. Kyle discovered his passion for cooking while studying film in Paris; learning to cook on a hot plate in an old maid’s quarters, taking inspiration from the produce & spice markets around the city. He soon joined his wife, Ashley, in New York City where she was studying to become a certified health coach at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. Kyle then worked at Sacred Chow, a vegan bistro, where he fine-tuned his craft and saw firsthand that feeding people delicious vegan food is the best way to help animals and the planet.
After 5 years in the Big Apple and a culinary journey through South India, the couple moved back to the Bay Area. Kyle and Ashley spent their days studying bio-intensive farming in Sonoma County and their nights creating bold, flavorful dinners celebrating the bounty of that day's harvest. Soon after, Kyle became the head chef at Green Earth Cafe, a macrobiotic restaurant in Berkeley, California. Followed by opportunity to join Miyoko Schinner as one of the first five employees of Miyoko’s Kitchen as R&D chef.
From the Garden's goal is to create dishes with international flavors & inventive presentations, all made from the freshest local & organic ingredients. Infinitely customizable, endlessly delicious and always prepared with love! They are proud to serve globally influenced vegan cuisine.
Always seasonal. Always bold. Always FROM THE GARDEN.
